I have found a picture to copy for my next project.

Sorry, not copy, interpret, inspire.
To reproduce this image I shall first produce a soft pastel impression to get familiar with the picture and then I will read up on the background about the original painting.

Stage One
First I decide how much to enlarge the image, I work out the Length factor and then work out the scale of enlargement, this one will be a scale of 1:1.62 from the image I found in a book.

Stage 2, Drawbridge Project.
After drawing the outline of the picture I start building up the layers, trying to maintain the outline while filling in the main areas of colour.

Stage 3. Drawbridge Project
I now start to build up some detail, building up more depth and checking my scale of enlargement as it easy to go wrong and it gets harder to fix any major errors.

Finding the Time
One thing I lack is time. I have a complete lack of time to pursue my interest in art. Mainly due to my very poor time management. I try and make time on Friday nights to get some art done but instead I spent the night again going online and reading other peoples blogs. Now where does that get me, no where that's where it gets me. Stop reading blogs and get back to the picture I tell myself but it does not happen.

Soft pastel Sketch Finished

Finally I managed to find time on a Friday evening to finish the soft pastel sketch of a interpretation of a painting, the image was taken from a book and scaled up. I am working on the project to produce an acrylic painting on canvas for our living room.

I shall now do a pencil drawing of the picture the size that I intend painting using quality art paper and a 6b pencil. When the sketch is complete, then the acrylic painting shall start.

18th March 2012. I never got round to doing the painting in the end.
